Frequently Asked Questions

Isn’t a coach just like a therapist?
There is a big difference between a coach and a therapist.  A therapist will work to diagnose and treat patients.  A coach works with people to move them to the next level in their lives.

One good way to look at the difference between a coach and a therapist is to consider a scale from one to ten.  Ten is the life of your dreams and one is you are ready to jump off the Brooklyn Bridge.  A score of five is an average life.  Therapists work with patients in the range of one to five.  Coaches co-create with clients to take them from five to ten and beyond.

Isn’t coaching expensive?  I can’t afford it now.
Many coaching clients reach their goals months, if not years, faster because of the focus and direction a coach gives them.  When considering the investment of a coaching program, consider the cost of that lost time and money.  If you feel you cannot afford coaching right now, odds are you cannot afford to wait for coaching.

How do I know I am getting results?
There are several ways to know that you are getting results.

  1. You start seeing changes – after coaching sessions, I have had people make a $60,000 deal the next day, massively improve their family relationships and simply sleep better for the first time in years.  Some sessions will create fast results like these.
  2. The core of each coaching session is a session preparation form.  This provides a focus and direction for the session.  At the end of each coaching session, your coach should ask if you received the value you expected.  This is your opportunity to check in and make sure that your questions on the preparation form have been answered.  If they have been, you are getting results.
  3. A good coaching program will combine time for your individual needs with an overall intention for the program.  That way you are always moving towards a goal while working on any personal roadblocks to achieving that goal.  In Break Thru Living’s Creation Coaching Program, the overall intention is to create a vision, guiding principles and mission for your life and the balance needed to achieve them.  Each coaching session is split between the vision and mission creation and going over anything else you want to go over.

How do I know that my coach is properly educated?
Look at the certifications that the coach has received.  Make sure that the companies giving the certification have experience and expertise in their fields.  Also, look for a coach that has earned certifications in several areas of coaching.  That way they can provide you with a broader viewpoint.
